Hi, I’m Lex!

I am a Puerto Rican self-taught artist and owner of Happy Accidents by Lex. I grew up in a suburb of Chicago and I now live and work in Milwaukee, WI. I started painting in 2020 and I learned the alla prima direct painting technique from the world renowned artist Bob Ross while watching his "Joy of Painting" series. What started as a pandemic hobby soon turned into an art career. I specialize in oil and acrylic landscape paintings on canvas and wood. Happy Accidents by Lex is a homage to my teacher Bob Ross's motto,

"We don’t make mistakes, we just have happy accidents."

My inspiration for pursuing my passion for art comes from my supportive family and my love for nature, as well as the many places I’ve traveled with my husband. I don’t like to consider painting “work”. I use my paint brushes as an outlet and a form of self care and I believe that everyone is an artist in their own way. With my work I hope to instill in others a sense of awe in the natural world and an appreciation of the earth's many wonders.

Milwaukee PBS: The Arts Page | Alexis Rivera Luna learned to paint by watching Bob Ross and you can too!

Feeling burned out from her 9 -5 job Alexis Rivera Luna started watching "The Joy of Painting with Bob Ross" for a pick me up. Her partner noticed and decided to buy her a paint like Bob Ross kit so she could paint along with Bob. Fast forward a few years and that simple art project has blossomed into a flourishing business. She now is a working artist developing her own unique style and forming connections within the arts community.

Lex's story is one of will and determination. Unhappy with the rat race of life she didn't bear down and go through the motions. She set her mind to a goal and put the time and effort into achieving that goal. She says that's what she wants people to take away from her art is that they can accomplish anything they set their mind to just like she did.
